In 1977, American designer Gale Epstein (who traces her love of creating clothing back to childhood) hand-made lingerie for her friend, Lida Orzeck. Her material of choice … embroidered handkerchiefs! The brand name, “hanky” refers back to this original craftwork, with the naughty but nice addition of “panky”. The two friends thus created a brand which soon attracted New York department stores with its simple and sexy style and vibrant colours. This capacity to transform lace into simple, comfortable and sexy shapes, with an infinite number of colourways is the Hanky Panky signature. Famous for its thongs, the brand also offers boyshorts and briefs, as well as bras, tops and nightwear. Hanky Panky produces particularly well-finished articles, basing its entire production in north-eastern USA to guarantee the high quality and colour stability of its extra-soft lace. This strategy offers a number of benefits including a reduced carbon footprint and better environmental protection, an issue that is close to the brand’s heart.
